Gauge Engineer

Purpose
The Gauge Engineer or designate will engage with Program Management, Advanced Quality Engineering and Purchasing to ensure that new check fixtures are designed, built, and delivered for new model launch programs according to internal and customer expectations and timelines by effectively managing suppliers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Manage the development of the best possible design and creation of new fixtures by defining problems, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Manage Master Timeline milestones related to check fixtures to ensure milestones are achieved and meet internal and customer requirements.
- Responsible for sourcing of final/finished goods and WIP fixtures.
- Oversee the changes to final/finished goods and WIP fixtures during development activities prior to mass production (e.g., engineering changes).
- Develop preliminary/final designs with fixture suppliers.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with appropriate personnel in cross-functional teams to review job build details.
- Participate in and support first trial activities.
- Responsible for scheduling and attending the Gauge R&R at the fixture builder.
- Manage the APQP process specifically addressing communication/execution of countermeasures related to Gauge R&R and Gauge Build issues as required.
- Provide technical expertise to support Advanced Quality Engineer and Program Manager related to fixture design/buy-off during interactions with the Customer as required.
- Review GD&T in collaboration with the customer and Advanced Quality Engineer.
- Create GD&T proposals in collaboration with the Advanced Quality Engineer and Program
- Ensure that a clean and safe work environment is always maintained.
- Assist in any way, necessary to promote a successful operation emphasizing customer satisfaction.
- Ensure personal awareness and understanding of ISO 14001 and IATF16949 (includes ISO 9001) Standards, and company policies and procedures.
- During management system audit events provide evidence in support of conformance with applicable standards and procedures and participate in corrective action activities as necessary.
- Complete any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
- Must possess a recognized Engineering Technical degree or diploma in a related area or equivalent industry experience.
- Preference for candidates with a university degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
- Must possess GD&T Certification.
- Minimum 7 years' experience within the area of Gauge engineering, leading gauge designs and builds.
- Demonstrated ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in order to best design and create new assembly fixtures.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective customer and supplier relationships.
- Expert knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Knowledgeable in Integrated Manufacturing and Design related to both OEM and Manufacturing facility.
- Ability to read and understand 2D part prints and view 3D gauge designs.
- Excellent working knowledge and understanding of check fixtures.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships in cross-functional teams.
- Communicate effectively both written and verbal.
