Design Engineer

Purpose
The design engineer is involved with the development and/or improvement of products or designs. This includes conceptualizing and developing new product or modification of existing products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Produces designs that are feasible and economical to produce in the manufacturing facilities.
- Provides alternative design solutions, analysis, justification and recommendations at the concept stage.
- Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts.
- Sketches rough layouts and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, clearances, tolerances, and location of holes, etc.
- Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.
- Provides support and contributes to manufacturing performance and customer service by assisting in the solution of production or quality problems associated with design.
- Ensures that all appropriate tests are performed
- Ensures product designs meet customer requirements.
- Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.
- Prepares interim and completion project reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent education and training required.
- 3+ years of experience
- Experience in automotive seating.

- Knowledge of computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs
- Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel including customers & suppliers

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and on the plant floor.
